Accessibility Statement
The Priaulx Library strives to provide a website which is accessible to all.
The following features have been provided to help make our site as accessible as possible to as many people as possible
Features to enhance the site's accessibility
Website Access
- The site has been tested to ensure that it is accessible in a wide range of browsers.
- Keyboard shortcuts are not provided for site pages, given the likely problems they may cause though conflicting with keyboard shortcuts used for other programs (e.g. browsers, screen readers). If this causes you a problem, please let us know!
Visual Design
- Cascading Style Sheets have been used to control the presentation of pages and properly structured markup has been used for content, for a full explanation of the accessibility benefits of this see "Why using CSS improves accessibility"
- If stylesheets are not supported or are turned off, information on the site can still be accessed and read
- Relative font sizes are used, which allows users to resize text as needed
- Using an external Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) to separate the structure and presentation of your web site can greatly improve its accessibility to many people:
- The use of CSS improves the structural coding of the website pages. HTML elements are used for their correct purpose and not for their default style attributes; code is cleaner and more easily maintained.
- Text-only browsers and screen readers benefit as they can take advantage from this enhanced structural information to improving within-page browsing. For example, a screen reader can allow direct navigation between page headings due to HTML heading elements (e.g. <h1>) being used.
- People who experience readability problems caused by the appearance of a page can choose to view it without the style sheet or, if they know what to do, replace it with their own user-defined style sheet.
Alternative Content
- Where flash content has been used for navigation within the website an alternative text version of the same navigation is provided below.
- All images have been given appropriate alternative text
