Newspapers

The Priaulx Library newspaper has the largest collection of local newspapers anywhere in the Channel Islands, including Guernsey’s very first newspaper, La Gazette de l’ile de Guernesey, published in 1791.

Not all of the newspapers can be searched or handled by the public as newsprint can be very fragile and conservation is expensive.

However, many of the newspapers are available to view on microfilm, there are files of news cuttings on various local topics, and compilation of a new, searchable, electronic newspaper database is under way.
