Introduction

It is the Priaulx Library’s raison d’être to collect, catalogue and preserve the record of Channel Island history and culture.  It holds particularly extensive Guernsey local studies, family history, and genealogy collections. The Priaulx Library aims to make this historical legacy as accessible as possible.  The Priaulx Library holds records of Channel Island life in manuscript, print and image and co-operates with other libraries and archives both within and outside the Bailiwick of Guernsey to widen access to these valuable collections.

The library itself is housed in a magnificent Georgian building with many interesting 19th-century architectural and decorative features.  The quiet and contemplative atmosphere is most welcoming and conducive to private study and reflection, and the collection of books and materials is in some respects more akin to a university than a public library.  We look forward to your visit!
