Carel Toms Photographic Collection digitisation project

The Carel Toms photographic collection is a valuable archive of local photograph and photographic negatives. Many facets of local life are featured among the images he captured. Hundreds of these images have already been scanned and categorised by volunteers from the Friends of the Priaulx Library in order to create an electronic database which will soon be accessible within the Library.

Electronic archive of Guernsey newspapers

Local newspapers have provided an invaluable “window” on daily life in the Bailiwick of Guernsey for more than two hundred years. The Priaulx Library’s newspaper archive is a precious but fragile resource which demands preservation, yet is required to be readily accessible. To satisfy both objectives, selected volumes of the Guernsey Press and other local newspapers have been scanned electronically and this database can be consulted in the Harris Room on the first floor of the library.

Digitization

The Library's unique collection of Occupation documents which form part of the Festung Guernsey, has been privately digitized and reprinted under that title (135 copies, all sold!).  It is planned that more of the Library's holdings will be made available in digital format when possible. Some small dcuments, such as letters, are already available as addenda to articles on this website.
