The Friends of the Priaulx Library
Our new website is up and running.
The foundation meeting of the Friends of the Priaulx Library took place on 15th April 2005. The Friends is a charitable association whose purpose is to support and assist the Priaulx Library and its work. It was the brainchild of the late and much missed Deputy Mike Burbridge.
Why does the library need assistance?
The Priaulx has had a great deal of success in recent years with the recruitment of very hard-working, professional librarians supported by an able body of equally hard-working staff members. Great progress has been made with cataloguing, rationalising, and ordering the collections, particularly the newspaper collections. However, the Library is run on a very tight budget indeed. Resources are limited. There is only so much that the staff can do and there is always a great number of projects and ambitions that remain to be fulfilled.
The role of the Friends
The Friends of the Priaulx have a number of potential roles to fulfil, both financial and practical.
Recently, the Friends had great success in raising funds towards the installation of a much-needed lift in the Library, and to fit out new toilet facilities for the disabled, ramps and other facilities. If you would more information about that project, now completed, please visit their new website.
In addition, the Friends co-ordinate the Adopt-a-Book scheme, whereby donations fund the repair and maintenance of our special books, including rebinding where necessary. Each donation is allocated to a specific book or books and acknowledged inside. To find out more, click here.
