Be part of the Library's future

The Priaulx Library welcomes donations of historically important documents, books, militaria, photographs, prints, maps, and ephemera, particularly those with a Guernsey connection.

The Priaulx Library also welcomes financial support and donations of all sizes, which are used to help preserve the collections.

It is a fundamental policy of the Priaulx Library to ensure open and easy access to all donated material for the general public and researchers alike, usually without appointment. Any person or organisation that donates material to us can be assured that the material will reach the widest possible audience, and will only be subject to restrictions if these are placed upon it by the donors themselves.

Whilst the Priaulx Library is delighted and grateful to receive donations of material, due to the nature of the resources held and lack of space, a donations policy has become a necessity. The nature of items the Library accepts is as follows:

  • Local items, including books, prints, leaflets, newspapers and other ephemera. Local can include all the Channel Islands and selected items from Normandy, Brittany and the British isles;
  • Militaria, particularly Napoleonic era and the First and Second World Wars;
  • Other items of historical or antiquarian interest which may fit into the Priaulx Library collections, information about which can be found here.

For any other items, please refer the donation to the Chief Librarian.

To prevent confusion as to ownership of any donated items, donors are requested to complete and sign a donations form, based on the forms commonly used for donations to museum collections. Please refer all enquiries to the Chief Librarian.

The Priaulx Library also welcomes donations of money, which will go towards the preservation of the collection. There is a donation box for small amounts in the Groves Room.
