Guernsey Encounters: Revolution and Progress

Guernsey Encounters: Revolution and Progress

From 18th April 2019Until 1st July 2019

This free exhibition comprises material borrowed from Guernsey Museums, and rare books, objects and photographs from the Library's own collection. A local genealogist has researched her ancestor, Jean Breton, James Saumarez's favourite pilot and local hero, and the Library is showcasing her research and Jean Breton's medal, given by the nation in grateful thanks for his saving his ship from capture by the French, and his telescope. The Guernsey crew of HMS Crescent have been identified - is one of them your ancestor? The rest of the exhibition is devoted to showing how 19th-century progress brought change in all aspects of life.
