Occupation memories: Priaulx Library under German rule

From 3rd April 2018Until 5th May 2018

The Priaulx Library is the island's repository for diaries, photographs, and personal accounts of the German Occupation, many of which are original documents. This exhibition reflects the wide range of material that we hold, including Red Cross letters to islanders, original copies of the GUNS clandestine newsheet, and A Babe at Biberach, a moving account in objects and letters of a little boy's short life in a concentration camp. It also features the life of Ralph Durand, the Priaulx Librarian who placed copies of GUNS in pre-agreed reference books in the Library, at great personal danger to himself.
