Nine people drown off Alderney, 1667

On Friday 18 October, 1667, on St Luke the Evangelist's Day, Jean Le Cocq son of Guillemet, Simon Le Vallee, Pierre Simon son of Laurent, Pierre Du Plain, Jacques Herivel, Germain Fleres son of Nicolas, Gunner Mr William Martin, *William de Beauvoir, and *Marie Fleres, were drowned between Alderney and Burhou, having been thrown onto a small rock near another called La GrĂ´sse: and the boat, with 6 barrels of cider, was carried away along with all the cargo by the sea through the violence of the waves, as they were coming from Guernsey.
* On 1 November of the same year, the aforementioned de Beauvoir and Marie Fleres were found and were buried in the cemetery at about 10 o'clock in the morning.
On the morning of Tuesday 5 November: the body of Pierre Simon son of Laurent, aged about 19, was found and was buried in the cemetery.
