Recent donations

The Library is very grateful to have received donations of books and documents from various sources. These include:

  • material relating to the conviction of Gill and LeBlond for 'treachery' in 1941;
  • transcripts of letters from Captain McCaskill to General Small concerning the death in a duel of Major Byng in 1795, kindly donated by Charles Dace, the archivist at Wrotham Park, Byng's family home;
  • an exhibition catalogue of views of Bermuda, including work by Gaspard Le Marchant Tupper, from Chriss Adams, Bermuda;
  • the papers of the Committee of the Women's World Day of Prayer (Guernsey Branch) from the 1950s to the present;
  • a small collection of family prayer-books belonging to the Rawdon and Dyson families, the earliest dating from the 1860s;
  • four ledgers from the United Reformed Church, collections and accounts, 1892-1968, donated 2013;
  • two marriage registers from De Lisle Methodist Church, covering the years 1928-1992, donated 2013;
  • 2 vols. Life of Gladstone, donated D. Chester, 2013;
  • Dad's Occupation Diary, July 12st 1940- Dec 29th 1944, and a 1984 recording 'Nana talking to her grandchildren' (Occupation memorabilia), donated by Olive Frampton in 2012
  • Sketchbook of Rosa Brock, from Sally Greenaway, 2012;
  • 24-Seven magazine, set, Coast Media, donated by publishers 2013;
  • Medals and records of Henry Joseph McMahon, anda Royal Humane Society Certificate, donated by S M McMahon,2013;
  • Items of Napoleonic interest and local books, donated from the late Jacques Maingard's Library, 2013;
  • Four letters relating to the loss of the ship Stella, 1899, donated by R P Wickham, 2013;
  • A photograph of the 2nd Batt. RGLI from March 1918, donated by Gillian Lenfestey, 2014;
  • WWI, Vol. I, and The Second Great War, Vols 1-9. both ed. Sir John Homerton, Celebrities of the Army, ed. Commodore C Robineri, RN, donated by Steven Morley, 2014;
  • Stockport & District CI Society Monthly Review, May-Oct. 1941 to August 1945, given to us by Nancy Skuse née Ogier, of Cirencester, in 2014;
  • A portfolio of letters dating from the 1840s, of Robilliard and Hocart (Alderney) and JP Naftel interest, from a house in Victoria Road, donated by Cath Wright, 2014;
  • Copies of letters written by Major Marie Ozanne during the occupation of Guernsey.
