Recent donations 2012

Calling all film buffs! Guernsey Filmmakers has donated to us its archive, consisting of a scrapbook of press cuttings since the club's inception in 1966, which will be kept updated, and an archive of all the clubs on DVD, which can be viewed in the Library (with headphones!). So get watching!

Patrick Devaney has kindly donated to us a collection of prints of drawings of Guernsey by Brian Pinero-Terriss, which are now available to view in the Library. Mr Devaney's father received them from the artist, with whom he worked as a docker at St Peter-Port Harbour.

The Library received an interesting collection of ephemera, dating from the 1940's, including cheques and even fabric swatches, from the old Gabriel's shops in Fountain Street. These were very thoughtfully saved from destruction by the men working on the renovation of the building and offered to us for preservation, for which we are very grateful.

Many thanks to Stephen Corbet for his generous loan of 42 documents relating to the Corbet family. The documents are, as is often the case, mostly concerned wth property and date from 1746 to 1919. The family names include Tourtel, Martin, Robert, Guilbert, De Lisle, Gavet, Fradin, and Jean and Thomas Corbet of the Vale. The documents concern descendants of Charles Corbet, b. 1750 in the Vale.

These documents are available to visitors to the Library on request.

Do you have books, photographs, or documents with a Guernsey connection that you would like to be looked after and made easily accessible to the public? Why not donate them to the Library? Find out how.
