No. 3. Bailiwick seal. 22 April 1478. Pierre de Beauvoir, Bailiff. In the island of Guernsey in the Town of St Peter Port, before Thomas Blondel and Thomas de Havilland, Jurats. John Le Hurey son of John of St Peter Port of the one part sells to John de Normantville son of Denis of St Peter Port of the other part. John de Normanville sells to John Le Huray a courtil containing around a vergee of land, in the parish of St Peter Port situated above th Moulin de Haut de la Vrangue between the Courtil Pierre Martin and the Longs Camps [Longcamps].
Bailiwick seal. 10 February 1693. In the presence of Charles Andros, Ecr., Seigneur d'Anneville, Lieutenant to Messire Edmund Andros, Chevalier, Sieur de Sausmarez and Bailiff of the island of Guernsey for William and Mary. Jean Careye and Jean Andros, Jurats, appeared Maitre Moyse Benoist, Minister of the Holy Gospel in the Island of Sark, both in his own right and in right of his wife. He is at this time on this island, appoints as his attorney Sieur Jean Bonamy son of the late Sieur Jean Bonamy of St Martin. Signed Andros, J Careye, W Le Marchant.
No. 5. 27 July 1642. Pierre Careye, Seneschal of the Court of St Michel. Jean Blondel, Michel de Sausmarez, and Jean Brehaut, Jurats of the Court. Amice Andros, Esq., Seigneur of Sausmarez, elder son and principal heir of the late Monsieur Thomas Andros, who while he was alive was the Seigneur of the said place, of the one part, and Sieur Josué Gosselin, guardian of Cécille, minor daughter of the late Sieur de Sausmarez and sister of the said Amice of the other part. The said Amice comes to an aimable accord with Cécille in the matter of the succession of their late father, in the following manner: etc etc, Amice takes the fief etc., deals with their father's debts, pays them off for his ssiter and agrees to continue to look after her as her father did. Gosselin the guardian of Cécile, who is there present, and who has reached the age of 17, by her wish and agreement, and with the advice and agreement of Demoiselle Elizabeth de Carteret, her mother, and of Sieur Jean Bonamy Jr, Nicolas Gosselin, Jean de Sausmarez and Henry de la Marche, her relatives, agrees to the transfer. Cécile is given from the inheritance 18 vergees of land that are situated in the Clos de Jerbourg etc.
18 May 1672. Amice Andros Esq., Seigneur de Sausmarez and Bailiff of Guernsey, before Messrs Jean de Sausmarez and William Le Marchant, Jurats. Philippe Vibert, son of the late Philippe Vibert, who during his lifetime resided in Jersey in the parish of St Ouen, sells to Elie Le Boutillier son of Elie, of St Peter Port, a rent ... on Dame Colenette Baudain, part heir of her uncle, Mr Philippe Baudain; she owed the rent to Philippe Vibert as he was heir to her said father (sic). He has shown us a congé from Mr Francois Greene, HM Receiver. 27 September 1672. Before Messrs Elizée de Sausmarez and James Careye, Jurats. Dame Colenette Baudain, daughter of Jean, of St Peter Port, heir in part of her late uncle, Philippe Baudain, sells to Elie Le Boutillier, son of the late Elie of this Town, he being purchaser from Philippe Vibert Jr., of Jersey, according to the above contract, a rent due from the heirs of Guillaume Mauger son of Pierre of the parish of St Martin.
No. 6. 22 October 1720. William Le Marchant judge-delegate, before Messrs James Careye and Jean Guille, Jurats; a contract has been copied from the Registers, the gist of which is as follows: 3 October 1667. Sieur Jean Bonamy caused a minute to be registered signed by Messrs Pierre Careye and James de Havilland, Jurats, dated last 28 September. Mr Bonamy declares that he had sold to Pierre Thomes [Pierre Thoumes] son of Nicolas two courtils next to each other, commonly known as Les Petits Prés, in St Martin, situated to the south-west of the Prés d'Icart belonging to the said Bonamy, and to the east of the gardens of James (?) Renouf, for rents to be received annually from Thomas Thoumes, son of Richard; Anthoine Le Pelley [Anthony Le Pelley]; Matthew Vaucourt. Note from Edith Carey: in dorso 'Monsieur Eleazar Le Marchant du Bosq, purchaser from Dame Olympe Bonamy to whom it was assigned by the heirs of Anthony Le Pelley,' 28 October 1667.
No. 7. 19 September 1729. Josué Le Marchant, Bailiff. Before Messrs Jean Andros and Nicholsa Thoumes, Jurats. Pierre Mauger, son of Guillaume, of La Villette in St Martin, owes, due to the assignation of M. André Monamy and Dame Marie Le Bouteiller, daughter of Elie, his wife, in accordance with a letter dated 6 June 1726. The rent was owed to Elie Le Bouteiller as a result of the assignation by Dame Collenette Baudain, according to a letter dated 17 September 1672, and due to the said Le Bouteiller following the sale and assignation of Philippe Viber according to a letter of 18 May 1672 (sic).
No. 8. Under Bailiwick Seal. Charles Andros, deputy to Eleazar Le Marchant, Lieutenant of Messire Edmund Andros, Kt., Seigneur de Sausmarez, Lieutenat-Governor and Bailiff of Guernsey. Before Messrs Jean Careye and James Careye, Jurats. A certain contract was shown to the court signed by Messrs Jean de Sausmarez and Elizée de Sausmarez, Jurats, dated 11 January 1665, which ordains the sale of the legacy of Nicolas Le Page son of Pierre of St Martin, to allow his debts to be paid. The said Nicolas appeared in person (in the presence of and with the agreement of Pierre Rabey Jr., the person who was to profit from this decree), and confirmed that he had sold rents to Thomas Fiott son of Pierre of St Peter Port, which came due at Michaelmas, to be received annually from the said Pierre Rabey Jr., Thomas Martin son of Jean of the said parish (on a meadow called the Pré or Hannière du Petit Bot. The said purchasers, viz. Pierre Gruchy, Pierre Rabey, Pierre Martin, Nicolas Martin, Pierre Le Page, brother of the aforementioned Nicolas, now own the order. And Marie Rabey, wife of the said Nicolas Le Page, was present. Item. In the presence of the aforesaid [jurats]. Pierre Rabey Jr. had caused a minute to be registered to confirm that he had sold a certain courtil belonging to Nicolas Le Page called Les Hurettes, contiguous to the land known as Les Hurettes that belonged to the heirs of Thomas Rabey in right of their late mother. Item. A furze-brake called Les Pensants (?) joined on the west to the furze-brake belonging to the heirs of James Martin and to the north of the Courtil Le Cogneron belonging to Thomas Le Page and bordering the common land. Those who bought from Samuel Allez in right of his wife, the daughter of Pierre de Perques [Pierre Desperques]. Item. To Gaspard Ollivier Jr. Item. To Pierre Robert son of Jean. Item. To Sieur Thomas Guille from the mortgage of Pierre Le Page. Item. To Sieur Thomas Fiott from teh assignation of William Le Pettevin [William Le Poidevin] etc.
No. 9. 6 June 1682. Le Sieur Pierre Gosselin son of Nicolas of St Peter Port sells to Sieur Thomas Fiott son of Pierre, also of St Peter Port, a kitchen garden called the Jardin Aron to the east of a garden belonging to Pierre Martin in right of his wife, the only heir to her father, Nicolas Robert, a small road between them; to the west of a garden belonging to Nicolas Mancel son of Thomas, and to the south of a courtil belonging to the said Mancel, as he bought it from the estate of the late Pierre Bailleul, the path which leads to the Bouet between them; another garden called the Jardin de Lamballe, to the south of one of the Jardins du Bouillon belonging to the said Thomas Fiott, who acquired it from the said Pierre Gosselin, the road between them; to the east of a garden that the late Francois Moulins had, having bought it from Pierre Gosselin, the road between them. Item. A furze-brake to the west of the Jardin de Lamballes and contiguous to it, and also bordered by the small road that leads to the Costils [Côtils]. And lastly, certain rows of trees and paths which also neighbour the Jardin de Lamballe ... with a congé from Mr William Steevens HM Receiver [Wiliam Stephens]. And Pierre Gosselin has promised to guarantee any dowry that his wife might be entitled to etc.
No. 10. 18 February 1703. [26 October 1650]. Eléazar Le Marchant Esq., Lieutenant to Messieur Edmund Andros, Kt., Siegneur de Sausmarez and Bailiff. In the presence of Messrs Jean Careye and Amice Andros, Jurats, was produced a contract dated 26 October 1650, in which Collas Tourgis son of Jean of St Saviour confirms that he owed to Collas de Garis son of Richard, of the same parish, a rent ... as the result of the sale of the Courtil à la Rocque. Item. A rent by the assignation of Pierre Le Cras, due to the heirs of Etienne Le Cras father of the said Pierre. Item. A rent .. owed by Thomas de Jersey guardian of his children in the right of his wife Marie, the daughter of Jean Allaire ... and a rent due to the said de Garis as guardian of his children in right of their mother, the daughter of James Le Cras. Note EC: in dorso: 15 January 1703. In the presence of Monsieur the Lieutenant-Bailiff. Richard de Jersey son of Pierre, of Saint Saviour's parish, [heir?] in part of his said father (?) in right of his mother, the daughter of Jean Allaire, has lost the case against James de Garis, prinicpal heir of Anne de Garis, daughter of the late Nicolas de Garis, son of Richard, of Les Huriaux, and accepts that he must pay to Richard de Garis towards the acquet of Anne de Garis because she bought from him a house and land at the Croix des Jenemies etc.
No. 11. 3 March 1728. Josué Le Marchant, Bailiff. Before Messrs Thomas Fiott, Pierre Careye son of John, and Jean de Garis, Jurats. Daniel Langlois, son of Olivier, and his wife Marie Brouard [confirm they owe to] Monsieur Eléazar Le Marchant a rent inasmuch as he acquired the inheritance rights of Mr Henry Maugeur son of Pierre, which, according to a contract dated 8 November 1727 was owing to the said Mr Pierre Maugeur by the said married couple because they had bought from Sieur James Rougier and his wife Thomasse Paint, the Courtil des Sarreries on the 15 November 1709.
No. 12. 26 July 1729. Seal of the Bailiwick. Counterseal Le Marchant. Messrs Thomas Fiott and Pierre Carye son of Jean, Jurats. Ruling against Sr Samuel Ollivier vs Mr Eleazar Le Marchant, heir in part of the late Eleazar Le Marchant Esq. The said Ollivier admits to owing a bushel through the purchase made by himself and Rachel de Mouilpied, his wife, from Pierre Marche Senior of a house and land, according to a Letter of 3rd October 1701, due to the said late [E le M] from the rent of Jean Le Pettevin as benefittee of the writ of the children of Collas Robert and of his wife Thomasse Le Retilley that he should receive from the said Marche, according to a Letter dated 9 June 1677. No. 13. William Le Marchant, Bailiff. 3 May 1771. In the presence of Daniel de Lisle and Jean de la Mare Esqs, Jurats. A contract was produced signed by Richard de Beauvoir and Nicolas Reserson, Jurats, dated 6 February 1771. Laurence Fiott, Esq., and Mr Jean de Sausmarez heirs to the acquisitions of the late Samuel Bonamy Esq., [sell] to George Newnham, native of Fareham in the Parish of Southampton, at present resident in this island, in St Peter Port, a certain courtil and a furze-brake next to each other in St Peter Port, called L'Amballe, to the southwest of the garden du Bouillon which belongs to Nicolas Le Cheminant, who bought it from the heirs of Thomas Fiott, Esq., a road running between them; to the northwest of the land of Lamballe belonging to the heirs of the late Mr William Le Marchant son of Eleazar, to the northeast of a furze-brake belonging to Pierre Mollet whch formerly belonged to Mr Henry Le Messurier, and to the southeast of a garden belonging to Pierre Falla, the Rue de Meulettes between them. ... through the transfer made by Sr Pierre Du Port to Mr Samuel Bonamy, according to a Letter of 7 February 1764, the said Pierre du Port being the purchaser of the said courtil and furze-brake from Anne Falla, the widow of the late Jean Vidamour, for the price of 36 livres tournois and 4 quarters 10 denerels of rent; and the said George Newnham must pay each on 10 October, thus releasing Messrs Fiott and De Saumarez with regard to Mr Josue St Jean Priaulx, having right by mortgage of Richard Gore and his wife etc.
